Munshiganj District BNP convener and former state minister for Health Mizanur Rahman Sinha was laid to rest in his ancestral village of Kalma in Lohajang upazila on Monday evening, following his namaz-e-janaza.

He was buried around 5:45 pm beside his father’s grave in Dohuri village of Kalma Union following a janaza held at the Kalma High School grounds, which drew thousands of party leaders, activists, and local residents.

Munshiganj-2 MP Abdus Salam Azad, Munshiganj-3 MP Kamaruzzaman Ratan, former district BNP member-secretary Mohiuddin Ahmed, and other senior political figures attended the namaz-e-janaza alongside a large gathering of supporters.

Earlier in the day, emotional scenes were witnessed as his body arrived at his ancestral home, where thousands of mourners gathered to pay their final respects. Many were seen in tears as they bid farewell to the veteran politician, while long-time colleagues and comrades also paid homage.

A separate janaza was held on Sunday morning at around 11:30am at the South Plaza of the National Parliament Building, attended by BNP Chairperson and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

Sinha passed away on Friday night while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Singapore. He was 83.

A seasoned BNP leader, he was elected Member of Parliament from Munshiganj-2 (Lohajang–Tongibari) in 1996 and 2001.

He served as state minister for Health and Family Welfare during the BNP-led four-party alliance government under former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.

He also served as the party’s central treasurer for a long period and was most recently appointed convener of the Munshiganj District BNP committee.
